National Memorial
The National Memorial at savar is a symbol of the nation's respect for the martyr's of the war of liberation.It stands 150 feet tall.Most prominently visible is the 150 feet tower that stands on a base measuring 130 feet wide.There is actually a series of 7 towers that rise by stages to a height of 150 feet.The entire complex will cover an area of 126 acres.The plan of this complex includes a mosque,a library and a museum.the relics of the liberation war will be kept in the museum.

The Sangsad Bhaban (Parliament House) at Sher-E-Bangla Nagar in Dhaka is a wonder of modern architecture and technology.It is one of the largest and most spectacular parliament buildings in the world.Originally designed by the famous American architect Louis I Kahn,this 155 ft high 9-storey buildings is surrounded by an artificial lake called the Cresent Lake.The main section is hidden behind a strong outer covering with circular and triangular openings.The structure has 1605 doors,335 windows,365 ventilators and corridors totalling to a bewildering length of 41.6 km.One could easily get lost in these deceptive corridors.The house has 354 seats forMPs,56 for guests,40 for journalists and 430 for spectators.It has also three party rooms each of which can seat 153 people.The whole place is airconditioned and includes all modern amenities.Although construction work on this structure started in 1964,it was finally inaugurated in 1982 and the first parliamentary session was held on 15 February the same year.Being a highly complex structure,its annual maintenance cost is about 50 million taka.This is truely a wonder for a poor country like Bangladesh.

Located on the bank of river Buriganga in Dhaka.It is an example of the nations rich cultural heritage.It was the home of the Nawab of Dhaka and a silent spectator to many events.Today's renovated Ahsan Manzil is a monument of immense historical beauty.It has 31 room's with a huge dome atop which can be seen from miles around.It now has 23 galleries in 31 room's displaying portraits,furniture and household articles and utensils used by the Nawab.

Bangabhaban
Bangabhaban is the official residence of the president of Bangladesh.It was originally the temporary official residence of British Viceroy of india,then of the governor of East Bengal and was known as Governor House.The present site of Bangabhaban has a long history.During the Sultanate period a saint called Hazrat Shahjalal Dakhini used to reside in the area.He along with his disciples were mercilessly kill by the men of the ruling Sultan and buried here.With the passage of time the place became famous as a majar and later was abandoned.During the Mughal rule,Mirza Mukim was the official in charge of Nawara Mahal under Subadar Mir Jumla.His residence was on the southern side of Purana Paltan Maidan.There were two big hillocks inside and outside of his residence.One of them still lies within the boundary of Bangabhaban.The large tank inside came to be known as Motijheel,lake of pearl,because of the legend that Mirza Mukim's daughter used to throw her ornaments there.Later,Nawab Abdul Ghani of Dhaka built a bunglow there which he named as Dilkusha Garden.
On the partition of Bengal in 1905, a building was constructed there for the Viceroy of India.He used to stay here during his visits in East Bengal upto 1911.Until 1947,the place was known as Governor House.The Governor House was renamed as Bangabhaban on 12 January 1972.It is the official residence of the President of Bangladesh.

Dhaka is better known as a city of Mosques.The number of mosques in Dhaka city old and new-would be more than one thousand.The only surviving monument of the pre mughal period in Dhaka is Binat Bibi's mosque(1457) in narinda.Other monuments of the sultanate period around Dhaka are the single-dome Goaldi mosque(1493-1519) and mosque of Fateh Shah at mograpara(1484)

Nationals Poet's Graveyard
National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam died on august 28, 1976 and was laid to rest here.The graveyard is adjacent to Dhaka University Mosque.
